How To Take Better Pictures

A common question asked by simmers is how to take better in game pictures. (And this has nothing to do with photoshop ;) )

Step 1: Optimising your in-game Settings

Before setting up your pictures, you'll need to change your settings so that you're end result will look the best your system will allow. If you usually play with many of your graphics settings on low for performance reasons, you will want to temporarily set them higher for better quality screenshots. All of the graphics settings are explained here (http://tg.sims2techguide.net/guide.php?g=21)

You also need to change your photo settings so that your shots will be captures at the highest possible quality.

When you are playing on a lot, or when you are in neighborhood view, click on the three dots (Circled in red) and then the camera icon:

Next, set snapshot size to large, and picture quality to high:

Step 2: Setting The Scene

The next step would be setting the scene for your picture, and there are several cheats that can help you do this.

moveObjects [on/off]

This is an important cheat for photo taking, it allows you to pick up items you normally would not be able to (Including your Sims) and place them where you would like and even overlap them.

boolProp snapObjectsToGrid [true/false]

True is the default on this one. You know how you usually need to place objects on that grid? You can't get things centered, or as close together ad you would like? With this cheat (Set as "false") you will be allowed to place objects outside the grid lines. Just be sure not to use this cheat while you are placing windows or doors, it will not work.

boolProp allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation [true/false]

This allows you to rotate items at 45-degree angles. We all get sick of having our Sims homes at all 90-degree angles. Once you enable this cheat, you may use the < and > keys to rotate any object you select

showHeadlines [on/off]

This removes thought and speech bubbles, and the plus and minus signs for relationship gain. It will not remove plumbobs, or some other things like the zzz's while Sims are sleeping.

The allMenus on (http://www.jd-movies.com/allmenus.php) cheat is a hidden cheat. click the link for instructions on how to active the cheat

For posing your sims, you may find these (http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=10453) storytelling cheats useful

Step 3: Getting thoes tricky angles!

After you have your scene all set, and your Sim perfectly posed, you need to get the right angle. It's so much easier to do this while in cameraman mode. (You can use it on a lot and in neighborhood view) To get into cameraman view, press tab. Cameraman view allows you to have more precise control of the camera, and to zoom in closer that you are usually allowed. Your menus at the bottom of the screen will vanish, and you will be able to see everything more easily. You will need to use hot keys on your keyboard to control the camera.

Q-Down
E-Up
W-Forward*
S- Back*
A- Right
D- Left
Z- Zoom In*
X- Zoom Out*
P-Play/Pause**
C-Capture (Takes the picture)

*The difference between “Forward"¯ and “Zoom"¯ is that “Forward" moves the camera ahead in a straight line, while “Zoom" moves it ahead in the same angle it is currently facing. “Back"¯ and “Zoom Out"¯ are the opposites of these

**Will not work if you get into cameraman mode in but or build mode

It takes a while to get used to. Play around with it. You can use your mouse to fine-tune it, and you can always push "Tab" to get out of cameraman mode, and get back in it from another angle then try again.

Good luck, and have fun!
