Okay, well first off, the story.

I was pulling out of the Publix (Grocery store in Florida) parking lot when a cop suposivly saw another car speeding on a road across from U.S.1. (Major road in FL) The officer didn't turn on his lights and siren until after the impact and attempted to cross U.S.1 Highway, but as he was crossing at around 50 MPH a car coming from the northbound lane a car was coming down the stretch of highway at 60 miles per hour atleast which is under the speed limit for the area, and then boom! The police cruiser t-bone's the SUV and it overturns. It happened so fast I didn't have time to react, so I decied to pull over and assist the drivers. Another cop appeared out of no where. The cop came out of his vehicle with a couple scratchs but his car was totaled. We went over to see the other driver in the overturned SUV, we could not get him out. The best we could do is talk to him.

The Paramedics arrive on the scene within 15 minutes, they flip the overturned SUV back over, below is a picture of what it looks like on the undamaged side during the accident. (I couldn't get the other side because of the EMS and police)

Now as the jaws of life were used to free the driver and child, they were rushed to the hospital. I don't know they're condition but if I find out I will tell you, and also if I find a news article I will link it to you.

Now for the part that pisses me off:

The police officer involved in the accident wants to sue the driver. They also want to charge her with reckless endangerment, which has a maximun sentence of 10 years in Florida. The deputy had the red light on his side, and the driver of the SUV had the green light, the deputy didn't turn on his lights until he got to the middle of the intersection but then it was too late. Now the officer wants to charge the SUV driver for reckless endangerment and failing to slow down at an intersection. But the deputy never did. I think he is clearly at fault. He wants me to got testify as an eyewitness and send her to jail! I believe she did nothing wrong, the cop came from a small road between the trees crossing for lanes of traffic going at 50 miles an hour, while turning his lights and siren on right after the impact. What do you think?

EDIT:

The mother of the SUV is in good condtion. The 9 year-old child on the other hand is in critical condition at Flagler Hospital.

Jason what a terrible thing to have to experience. My thoughts and prayers are with that family.
If you saw everything and you believe the cop is at fault I think you should testify against him. It's so very hard for justice to be served against public authorities that you may be the hero that family really needs.
Good luck hon!

God, what an awful thing to have happened and I really hope the little kid turns out to be ok. I don't know what makes some policeman believe they can break the very laws they are supposed to uphold.

Unfortunately it is not just where you live, I think it's everywhere. Where I live, just in the last couple of years there have been numerous accidents involving policemen and citizens. In one, the officer in question was going the wrong way on a one way street.

Good luck with your testimony. I hope everything turns out ok, for all concerned.
