You need to download and install the video codecs specified in the download page. You will get a black screen if you dont have the right codecs installed.

You may have to check if you installed the Divx player along with the codecs. At the time I made this Divx was offering the codecs without the player included, but I believe at some point some of their codecs were bundled with their player. What happens is that when a video is played that uses that codec and you have the player installed, the system will try to play the video from that player instead and thus, it minimizes the game in order to try and play the videos but often it crashes the game.

What you need to do is find if you have that player installed and uninstall it or simply change the configuration for your avi files so they open with the windows media player instead. To do this just right click on one of your avi files, then select properties, then click on "change" to change the program it opens with and select "Window Media Player".

Also, double check that you installed the videos and configuration files (ini) in the right folders. I hope this helps.

I think you may have installed the videos incorreclty. Could you specify in which folder are the videos actually installed?

If you used the installer provided, everything should have installed in the correct folders, however the installer has been known to fail in some systems, so it's possible you don't have the videos correctly installed. There should be a folder in "My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Movies" for each game and the videos should be located there, if not your game did not installed correclty and you may have to do it again or install manually.

I used the installer provided & they are in the movies folder like you said they would be with the other games I have urbz, sim city, ssx3 & they all work fine.. the installer does seem to wizz throught he installation in a matter of secs could this be the problem or does it depend on the speed of your computer how fast it installs..
