I'd really like to download things off this site, but I'm kinda confused as to how I do it... I've never bought anything online before, or subscribed to any sites, so this would be the first lol. Do we need a credit card? Because neither my mum or I have one.

Hi Beebee, I'm new here too.
If you don't have a credit card, Paypal does have a way that you can connect it directly to your bank account, it's quite safe, but you'd have to see what your options are with you being in Australia.
Perhaps Exnem can help you more.
